This week’s Psychedelic Groundbreaker is Entheo Ventures. They’re a Psychedelic Management Consulting firm guiding businesses through the psychedelic revolution. The Founder and CEO, Saba Candari, is a 15+ year veteran in the Financial Service industry, and his Co-Founder, Lana Baumgartner, is the co-founder of Psychedelic Times. They’ve built a team of some of the best minds in this space. They have recently expanded their team by adding Dr. Sandra Dreisbach (Professor of Bioethics), Courtney Barnes, ESQ, and many others. They will soon be announcing a new Advisor that most of our readers will know and respect as an early pioneer.

What’s this article series about? Psychedelic Groundbreakers is a get-to-know-you-style blog series highlighting prominent and groundbreaking companies in the psychedelics industry.

What’s your company vision?

Our clients are the innovative, free thinkers in the psychedelic community. They see the world differently. They see where we are from a realistic standpoint and have collectively visualized a more compelling future for humanity.

Our mission is to help them discover the limitless potential of navigating business with the support of a team dedicated to optimization and execution. Without compromising integrity and intention, we exist as an extension of our client’s core team. We are aligned with the collective mission of increasing awareness of the therapeutic & conscious use of Entheogens.

Entheo Ventures serves as a bridge to a future that is founded upon a more holistic approach to business.

Why was your company started?

We, at Entheo Ventures, have all individually traversed the many realms of altered states of consciousness through the intentional use of Entheogens. After many years immersed in the community of free thinkers and psychedelic entrepreneurs, we have had the privilege of witnessing exponential growth in this industry. Within this ever-expanding community of individuals dedicated to increasing awareness of psychedelics, we have noticed trends as companies and organizations emerge. Companies are skipping the critical steps that create the foundation of a successful, sustainable business.

One thing that many of us know to be true is that medicine knows no time. Simply put, the realizations and messages that come through during a journey often come without a deadline or timestamp. We are ignited after powerful experiences and urged to move forward and build. What’s crucial in that process is beginning with the foundational building blocks to firmly root into solid ground. This allows for sustainable growth. Our intention is to remedy the challenges that will arise while some are compelled to move at lightning speed and overlook some of the most crucial initial building blocks.

We have built a support system for existing companies and organizations as well as others entering the industry — a system that truly serves them. We saw many of the original players in the Cannabis space get pushed out because they failed to build on a solid foundation. It served as a warning for the psychedelic industry. We created Entheo Ventures to serve and guide those that have dedicated their lives to the intentional, conscious, and therapeutic use of these medicines. Our team has organically grown to include individuals with a deep purpose and desire to provide our clients with the highest level of expertise from a broad spectrum of training and experience.

We provide expert advice and guide our clients through complex business situations. We have compiled some of the top minds in the business & psychedelic communities to provide our clients with experts in Finance, IT, Cyber Security, legal, Operations, Ethics, Business Management, Marketing, and so much more. We have brilliant doctors, lawyers, professors, scientists, and engineers on the team, and we’re continuing to grow to serve our clients better.

These are the kind of people that would typically be out of reach for many companies. Now we can offer all this expertise to our clients. Sharing this team with our clients is something that we are very excited about. We lead with passion and purpose, and so do those that have joined us.

What’s been the biggest challenge so far?

The race is on. We’re all feeling the pressure to keep the ball rolling. It often gets ahead of all of us in this community. Making the time to come together and hone in on what needs to be done is undoubtedly challenging. Especially when there’s so much momentum. Educating our clients and teaching them the importance of building a solid foundation from the beginning is always the first step. With any industry experiencing rapid growth, the focus is often to push to the market as fast as possible. While we realize and agree with the importance of this pace, we point clients in the direction of growth and sustainability. This is the way to avoid potential future setbacks. We all understand the often-used reference of the “Wild West.” Though this sounds great, those stories didn’t always end well. Our purpose is to uncover the challenges now so that we can strategize toward success. The most crucial advice for ourselves and the companies entering the industry is to think long-term and model after the structures that have stood the test of time.

What excites you most?

Everything about the psychedelic industry excites us. This is the most critical time for this industry. Everything that has happened in the last few years has created the perfect storm in essence – for the Psychedelic renaissance to occur. We need all hands on deck. Covid has shed more light on the importance of mental health, and many individuals seek novel potential solutions as the outdated models have failed many. Entheogens can and will have a global impact. The word has spread, and clinical trials have granted us ample insight. To join this community of altruistic individuals devoted to the betterment of humanity serves as an eternal drive for our team.

What is your biggest lesson learned when raising capital?

We are 100% self-funded. We have been approached by investors and have been excited to see their willingness to collaborate with us. More investors are looking to enter the space, and we are happy to connect them with some of our clients. That being said, I have spent the last decade in the investment world. Always read the fine print, and make sure you only do business with those truly in alignment with your mission.

“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change.” – Gandhi.
We have all heard this at some point, usually in its abbreviated version of “Be the change you wish to see in the world” – take this lesson with you when fundraising. If you don’t like the old models, be the one that changes them. For us, this simply means, be okay with turning down investors.

Did you notice any type of investor differences while raising money?

Some of the investors we have talked to actually get it. They have experienced the medicine for themselves and are taking a different approach. This is amazing to see. It helps serve as another reminder of where the world is right now. New models are and will continue to be created to fit the Psychedelic space. Seeing what MAPS recently did with Vine is a reminder of this change. This, of course, is exciting!

What tips would you give founders entering fundraising?

Think long-term, lean on your network, and never be embarrassed about asking questions over and over again. The moves you make today will impact your company for a very long time, and they will potentially impact the greater Psychedelic community. Many in this space would be happy to support you and answer your questions. Lean on them, and take your time.
