Psychedelic Guides with Danny Motyka of Psygen Industries Inc.

This week’s Psychedelic Guide is Danny Motyka, Chief Executive Officer for Psygen Industries Inc. Psygen is a manufacturer of pharmaceutical-grade psychedelic drug products for clinical research and therapeutic applications.

When did you first become involved in the psychedelic industry and why?

2006 I set my intention to become a psychedelics manufacturer.
2008 I began studying Chemistry at the University of Victoria.
2018 I was working in the cannabis industry and felt disenchanted with my work. I attended a conference in Stockholm and decided it was time to build a manufacturing business.
2019 Psygen Labs Inc was incorporated.

Do you, or have you taken, psychedelic substances?

Yes, I have and do take psychedelic substances, fairly regularly. And because I’m honest about it I cannot have life insurance. Usually psilocybin, LSD, or 2C-B; less frequently DMT and 3-MMC (is that a psychedelic?!)

What’s your favourite psychedelic compound?

It is very tough to say, but probably LSD.

Do your parents/family members know what you’re doing?

Yes, I am supported by my family in my business.

Have you had an experience with mental health/chronic pain?

Yes, I was suffering from serious depression when I first experienced psilocybin and LSD which led to my interest in this field.

What’s your vision of the industry in 20 years?

I consider psychedelics transformative medicines and hope that this “industry” transforms the broken (in my view) institutions that our society is built on. The focus on mental health right now is important, but I hope that we are planting the seeds for drug policy and educational reform.

What are your biggest worries for the industry?

The number of low-quality “me too” stories that are coming to market, resulting in the extraction of value for the purpose of financial gain that is disguised as offering a service to humanity.
